The 2012 math competition, organized by the New England branch of the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA), will be held on April 21 at MIT. The competition is held every year at the same time throughout the country for students from 4th to 11th grade. The New England branch has been carrying out this event for 21 years and now it is considered as one of the traditional annual events they hold. Each year, about 100 to 150 students, from Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire and more places near Boston, participate in the competition. The event provides not only a competition but also lectures about education, informal talks by MIT and Harvard undergraduates speaking about their experiences, and a variety of programs, and students have been responding positively This year there will be a special lecture by Professor McCann of Harvard University. He is planning to visit the competition and he will be lecturing about Korean’s traditional poetry and shijo (a three-verse Korean ode). The registration for the competition is currently available online (www.kseane.org). The students who are not able to register prior to the competitioncan stillregister at the entrance; however, the seats at the competition place are limited and the online registration fee is $5 less than the fee at the entrance. Sang-wun Lee, the president of the New England branch of KSEA, said, “The purpose of this competition is not to instigate rivalry among students. Rather, it is organized toencouragethose who have more interest in mathematics.” There are some practice problems on the website (www.ksea.org/nmsc/), Anyone who is interested in the competition can try them. For more information, please call the President, Sang-wun Lee (508-251-9691), or the Vice President, Jun-young Choi (781-223-3065). ⓒ 보스톤코리아(http://www.bostonkorea.com), 무단전재 및 재배포 금지 |
