질문 :대학들이 SAT II 점수도 보나요? 만약 그렇다면 준비가 되지 않은 상태이더라도 화학과 라틴어 시험을 보는 것이 좋을까요?
답변 : 좋은 질문입니다.
그 질문에 명확하게 대답하기 위해서 컬리지보드의 SAT I 과 SAT II 관련 방침을 살펴볼필요가 있습니다. 2009년에 만들어진 이 방침에 따르면, 컬리지보드는 학생이 선택한 점수만을 대학에 리포트하도록 되어있습니다. SAT I 의 경우 일회의 시험점수를 리포트하게 되어있지만 ( 대학이 각 섹션의 최고점수를 고려하지만 시험을 여러번 보고 각기 다른 회차의 섹션점수를 리포트할수없음) SAT Subject Tests (SAT II) 는 어느 시험 점수를 리포트할지 학생이 정할 수 있습니다.

반면, 모든 시험점수를 리포트하기를 요구하여 어떤 점수를 보낼지 정할 자유를 주지않는 학교도 있습니다. 컬리지보드 홈페이지에서 개별 학교의 방침을 찾아볼 수 있습니다. 예를 들면, 하버드 대학은 리포트한 점수중 가장 높은 점수만을 고려하지만 콜럼비아 대학은 모든 점수를 리포트하도록 하고있습니다.
이런 점을 염두에두고, 질문에 대답을 한다면, 점수를 선택하여 리포트할 수 있는 경우 별다른 준비없이 시험을 치는 것은 나쁘지않습니다.

그러나, 최종 결정을 내리기 전에 어떤 학교가 모든 점수를 리포트하도록 하는지 찾아볼필요가 있습니다. 모든 점수를 리포트하도록 하는 학교에 지원하는 경우 어떤 시험을 치는지, 어떤 점수를 받을 수 있는지를 진지하게 고민해보아야 합니다. 또한, 그런 학교에 지원할 의사가 있는 경우, 준비없이 시험을 치지 않기를 바랍니다. 모든 점수를 리포트하도록 하는 유명대학은 다음과 같습니다. 콜럼비아, 코넬, 맥길, 텁스, 캘리포니아 대학, 펜실베니아 대학

Recently a student of mine asked a very good question that I would like to share with you.

Question: Do colleges see all of your SAT II scores? If so, do you think it would be wise for me to take chemistry and Latin, even though I haven't prepared for them yet?
Answer: This is a very good question you raise.
To answer that, we need to look to the CollegeBoard's SAT Score Choice policy which applies both to SAT I and SAT IIs. This policy, instituted in 2009, states that the CollegeBoard will only send scores that you choose to colleges. For SAT I, that is the full score from one sitting (you can't send different sections from different sittings though many colleges will "cherry pick" or evaluate only the best score in each section), and for SAT Subject Tests (SAT IIs), you can choose which individual tests to send.
HOWEVER, some colleges require that you send ALL of your testing results from all dates to them, thereby eliminating your ability to use Score Choice. You can find the list here of each individual school's policy on the CollegeBoard website. For example, Harvard only considers the highest score you have for any given test. Columbia, however, requires you to send all scores.

With this in mind, let's go back to your original question. With Score Choice, there's not a whole lot of harm in taking the tests without preparing for them, because colleges will not see the scores unless you say so.

However, before making your final decision, you should survey the schools that require you to submit all your scores. If you're planning on applying to any of these schools, you need to be extremely careful with the tests you take and how you score. I would recommend not taking any test on a whim if you are planning to apply to any schools that require you to send all scores. Here are some of the more notable schools on the list: Columbia, Cornell, McGill, Tufts, University of California (all schools), U Penn.

If you're not sure how you'll do on the test, an easy way to assess your confidence would be for you to pop into the bookstore and take a look at the study guide to see how well you'd do, or to talk to a qualified tutor who can assess your preparedness and help you ace the exam.
