Translated SeungYeon Woo On June 2nd at St. John's Church in Lexington, MA, a College Fair is planned for high school students and their parents who are preparing for college entrance. The college fair was held for the first time last year and Korean students and parents responded positively about the fair; it was a very successful event. It is continuing this year also with the cooperation of Boston Korea and well-known Korean education institutes around Boston. Boston Korea is hosting, and St. John's Church, Boston Education Institute, The Academy at Harvard Sqaure and other institutes are sponsoring the event. The college fair provides high school students and their parents the opportunity to experience professional counseling from the experts about college preparation. Any students and parents interested in colleges can join the fair for free. This year's college fair will contain more varied information due to some new participating institutes, such as SD Academy, SIF, and Oogie Art. Therefore, more one-to-one counseling booths and more valuable lectures can be expected. In particular, the pre-college art institute, Oogie Art, is planning to give a lecture on how to do portfolios to receive a lot of scholarships. Each institute will be giving a lecture for about 30 minutes. The first 15 minutes will be about college information and the last 15 minutes will be a Q&A session. Students and parents can pick any lecture they want to join according to their specific interests, but they will need to conform to basic etiquette by not distracting the audience and lecturers. Also, preparing some questions prior to the lectures will be helpful. Although the specific lecture titles and information about lectures are not yet fully determined, Seung-jun Oh, the director of SD Academy, is planning the lecture “A case study: Learning strategies to enter prestigious colleges” and SIF will make a speech on “Statistics on Ivy League students”. Also Boston Education Institute (Director: Jun-gi Jung), Boston Academy Consulting and HAS will give informative lectures. Moreover, Julie Kling, an admissions officer of New York University, will join the fair and provide a lecture on college information, as well as private counseling. The lectures and counseling booths will be held at the same time. Participants can enter each booth according to their specific interests and receive advice from experts. However, during the first two hours of the event, the booths are open only to the students and parents who have reserved appointments for counseling prior to the fair day. Thus, participants will need to make a reservation with the experts they want to meet. The reservations can be made by calling 617-254-4654 or [email protected]. Those without reservations will be expected to wait in line in front of booths. Please contact Boston Korea for more information about the college fair.
