악기를 어렸을때부터 배움으로써 꾸준하게 연습하고 무대에서 연주하는 경험이 전공자가 되지 않아도 인생에서 아주 좋은 경험이 된다는것을 본인의 경험으로도 아이들을 키우면서 느꼈을것 입니다.

팬더믹을 지나면서 음악 전공자들의 수는 급격히 줄어들었고 프로페셔널 음악가들도 다른쪽 분야의 직업으로 많이 바꾸면서 음악 교육의 중요성이 점점 줄어들고 있지만 대학 입시에서는 여전히 중요한 extracurricular activities 의 한가지로 꾸준하게 음악교육은 지속되고 있습니다.

대부분의 학생들은 전공을 하지 않지만 오랜기간 악기 레슨은 받는게 보통입니다. 하지만 레슨만 오래 받아서는 대학교 입시에서 쓸수 있는 것들이 아무것도 없어서 점점 학년이 올라갈수록 악기레슨을 지속해야 할것인지 의문이 많아지죠. 이렇게 음악 레슨을 오랫동안 받아온 학생중에 음악으로 Extracurricular activity로 music portfolio를 만들기 원하는 학생들에게 적합한 프로그램을 소개해 드립니다. (Website-Extracurricular Activities-)

• One-hour private lesson per week (16 week semester)

  - Preparation for auditions, competitions, and certificate exam

The program consists of a one-year (2-semester) curriculum. During the Fall semester, students will focus on preparing for the Royal Conservatory Music exam. In the spring semester, the focus will shift to international and state-level competitions and audition preparations for prep schools and youth orchestras. Students will receive continuous assistance, including weekly 1-hour private lessons with the instructor, personalized consultations with the program director.

NEMA strongly recommends participating in volunteer outreach concerts. Through its partnership with Volunteer Musician for the Arts, students can engage in virtual workshop discussions and conduct two outreach concerts. As a result, they will receive presidential recognition, volunteer hour certificates, and letters of commendation from the White House.

Additionally, NEMA suggests joining in summer camps and assisting in preparing for scholarship auditions. The comprehensive program includes weekly lessons, guidance on the competition and audition preparations, and personalized music portfolio consulting throughout the year.
