(Boston=Boston Korea) By Myong Sool Chang = The fate of coach Hong Myung-bo\'s Korean national team advancing to the Round of 32 will be determined today in the final group stage matches of Groups J, K, and L.

Korea finished third in Group A with one win, two losses, and three points, failing to advance on its own merit. Now, whether Korea can be included among the top eight third-place teams depends on the results of the remaining three groups.

Currently, Korea sits in eighth place among third-place teams, barely clinging to the final qualifying spot. Therefore, at least two of Groups J, K, and L must produce third-place finishers with worse records than Korea for the team to advance to the Round of 32.

The teams Korean fans should root for today are Austria, Uzbekistan, and Ghana.

Group J: Austria Win Most Beneficial

The first match to watch is in Group J. If Austria and Algeria, both currently with three points, draw, the Group J third-place team will secure four points, pushing Korea out of its current eighth-place qualifying position. In that case, Korea would need both Groups K and L to produce third-place teams with worse records to climb back into the top eight. Therefore, the best scenario for Korean fans is an Austria victory, though an Algeria win by two or more goals would also benefit Korea.

Group K: Uzbekistan Upset Needed

In Group K, third-place Democratic Republic of Congo faces fourth-place Uzbekistan. Korea\'s best hope is a Uzbekistan victory. Though Uzbekistan currently has zero points and a -7 goal differential, even if they win and finish third in the group, they\'re unlikely to overtake Korea unless they win by six or more goals. Conversely, if Congo wins or draws, they will likely finish ahead of Korea.

Group L: Ghana Must Beat Croatia

In Group L, second-place Ghana faces third-place Croatia. From Korea\'s perspective, a Ghana victory is the best scenario.

If Ghana wins, Croatia will remain at three points and likely finish below Korea in the rankings. However, if Croatia draws or wins, Korea\'s chances of advancing to the Round of 32 will drop significantly.

Potential Round of 32 Matchup with Belgium, Location Seattle Not Boston

If Korea miraculously advances to the Round of 32, their opponent will be Belgium, who secured first place in Group G, not Germany. While Group A\'s third-place finisher could have faced Group E\'s winner, with Germany facing Paraguay (Group D\'s third-place team), Korea would face Belgium on July 2 in Seattle, USA, if they advance.

Advancement Probability Plummets to 30s

Korea\'s chances of advancing to the Round of 32 have dropped sharply as results from other groups came in. Football statistics company Opta rated Korea\'s advancement probability at 87.8% immediately after the loss to South Africa, but it fell to 53.2% following subsequent group results and has now plunged to 31.5%. American sports media outlet The Athletic also projects Korea\'s advancement probability at 44%, seeing elimination as the more likely outcome.
