The K-pop concert by amateur Korean student singers has been all the buzz in the Boston Korean community. A Korean vocal performance group, Sorian, at Boston University will hold a K-Pop variety concert on Friday, April 6, 2012 at 8PM at Morse Auditorium. It will be the first K-pop concert in Boston. The members of Sorianwill start off the concert with songs of SNSD (Girls’ Generation) and Super Junior arranged with afunky remix. The concert performance is expected to be top quality due to the participation of Berklee students in its band and its production.

Not only they are preparing exciting K-Pop songs but also they will introduce some emotional songs, such as Korean ballads, “Goodbye Follows Love” by Gummy and “You, In my Arms” by Yoo Jae Ha.
Also, a Trot medley of Ju Hyun Mi’s “One Sided Love”, Kang Jin’s “DdaengBul” and Park Hyun Bin’s “GondreMandre” will interest all generations of the audience much more.

Sorian is organized by twelve undergraduate students at BU. The members are majoring in Hotel Management, International Business, Economics, Mathematics, and Chemistry, which are all far from any kind of musical major. However, they were able to organize a group together because of their love and passion towards music.

In 2010, they first gathered with a simple aim, “Let’s sing and have a concert together and share our mutual interest.” However, as time went by, they always wanted to produce more and better concerts and recently, they were able to produce one on quite a large scale. To introduce a concert of better quality, they became more disciplined about the amount of practice and set up a rigid practicing schedule. As soon as they decided to requestBerklee students to join the concert, some members had a problem withthe organization running contrary to their first aim.

Moreover, since all members are majoring in a variety of different subjects, they could not schedule the practice time easily due to the different schedules of homework, presentations, and exams. However, they were never negligent of the practice routine that they started two months before the concert. They even spent nights practicing together.

Each member is very talented, with their own unique skills. One of the male members can create a chord while whistling and another member can [change a note by note continuously while singing in R&B style]. [I don’t understand the part in brackets well enough to be able to rewrite it.] Together, they are planning to create an amazing harmony.

A Berklee student and the Producer of the upcoming concert, Min Jun Bae, said, “The members have more and better talents than amateurs do. As soon as we started to send out the concert flyer, the questions about becoming a member and about the concert have been more frequent.”
Bae added that not only Korean but also Southeast Asian students are showing great interest, and he is expecting to see at least 400 to 700 audience members on the concert day.

In Hyang Jang, the Vice President of Sorian, said, “I wish that many Korean students can be indulged in reminiscences of their homeland. Also, thatforeigners could experience and feel the diversity and attractiveness of Korean music.”
